In the Encyclopaedia of Theology, Hermeneutics belongs to the Bibliological group of studies, that is, to those studies that center about the Bible. It naturally follows the Philologia Sacra, and immediately precedes Exegesis. Hermeneutics and Exegesis are related to each other as theory and practice. The one is a science, the other an art. In this study on Hermeneutics, we deem it necessary to include the following in the order here given: (1) A brief outline of the history of Hermeneutical principles.
